Today, I’d like to share what I learned on-site during floor (laminate) engineering work — specifically, how to cut and install flooring planks in the first stage of a home renovation.

How can we install flooring like in Image 2, when working around obstacles like the one shown in Image 1?
STEP 1 – Mark & Transfer Reference Points

- Locate the outermost corner of the obstacle (wall edge, door jamb, post, etc.).
- From that corner, mark the plank in its install position, offset by a constant distance a (e.g., 12 mm).
- Mark the upper edge of the plank where it meets the obstacle, also offset by the same distance a (reference point ③).
Step 2 Cut & Fit

- Connect these two marks with a straight line to create the cut line.
- Cut along the line with an appropriate saw (table saw, band saw, jigsaw, etc.).
Step 3 Cut & Fit

- Using the same method, mark all reference points around the obstacle with the same offset distance, then connect them to create a cutting line.
